There is no shortage of activity at the former Pabst brewery. Located on the northwest edge of downtown Milwaukee, the massive complex is hitting the home stretch in its ongoing redevelopment. Four apartment buildings are under construction, including one in the brewery’s massive, former malt house. Staying true to the complex’s heritage and new name, The Brewery, two new breweries are opening in the complex, including one by Pabst itself. And finally, a hotel is under construction at the east end of the complex.
Eyes on Milwaukee: Ice Cream Factory Will Become Apartments
The Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approved city financing and a zoning variance to support the creation of 64 apartments at 1500 W. North Ave. in Lindsay Heights. The project, known as the The Legacy Lofts at the Blommer Ice Cream Factory, would also include first-floor commercial space that would house the Legacy Midwest Renewal Corp.

Big changes are coming to Bronzeville. A partnership formed by Melissa Goins‘ Maures Development Group and Joshua Jeffers‘ J. Jeffers & Co. is redeveloping the former Garfield Avenue School site into apartments and a new home for America’s Black Holocaust Museum. The development is the most substantial project in the Bronzeville district since the city created a redevelopment plan for the district in 2005.

This year’s Fastest Growing Firms come from various economic sectors, like Boelter Brands LLC, a distributor of licensed, branded sports-related drinkware and other products; contractor Capital Heating & Cooling; construction management firm Greenfire Management Services LLC; and diagnostic testing company Neurotech LLC.
Wgetthta building recognized by the Milwaukee Historic Preservation Commission's 2017 Cream of the Cream City awards
Since 1993 the City of Milwaukee Historic Preservation Commission, the Common Council and the Mayor have issued the Cream of the Cream City awards “to recognize projects large and small which have preserved the rich history of Milwaukee found in its varied architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries. The recipients of these awards have added value to their neighborhoods and Milwaukee by preserving the unique design and character of historically designated properties,” according to its mission statement.

An indoor sports complex, Vliet Street grocery store and public market and a signature public plaza and amphitheater in the Wisconsin Avenue area are among recommendations in a report released Monday for Milwaukee’s near west side.

The former Gallun Tannery site hasn’t looked this active in years. Construction crews are quickly building the first two buildings in the four-building River House apartment complex. The project is being developed by Atlantic Realty Partners on a stretch of N. Water St. just east of the Holton Street Viaduct. General contracting on the project is being led by Greenfire Management Services. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.
